Yvonne Chaka Chaka Video (DVD)

This DVD follows the career and lightning-fast climb to fame of African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka. As the daughter of an African gospel singer, her style is highly influenced by traditional African rhythms and gospel music, which she intertwines into most of her songs. Chaka Chaka is known as the disco queen of her land and has influenced music lovers all the way from Cape Town to Abidjan in the Ivory Coast. The video includes footage from her live performances of "Stimela," "I'm In Love with a DJ," "Umqombothi," "Motherland," as well as several others. Aside from having a heavy gospel influence, some of Chaka Chaka's music also carries a political message. In the segment for her song "Freedom," she talks about changing the song's lyrics around in order to elude media censorship.
