Claudio Giovanni Antoni0 Monteverdi (1567-1643) was an Italian Renaissance composer, born in Lombardy and who became a Roman Catholic Priest. His inspired pieces are considered the turning point from Renaissance polyphony to emotional, Baroque compositional techniques. A prolific writer, he is best known for his church music, madrigals, and operas. One of his most famous works, L'Orfeo, is one of the earliest operas still on production. This film explores Monteverdi's characteristic sound and how it evolved out of Late Renaissance Venice. This is a must watch for any music lover, especially any one who enjoys sacred music. This film includes footage of live performances from the Ducal Palace.
