This video takes a closer look at the man who was perhaps the biggest proponent of sitar music in the second half of the 20th century, Ravi Shankar. Largely credited with taking Indian music international in the 1950's and 60's, the legendary performer is seen both playing and talking on this DVD. You will get insight into the inner peace that was the source of his tremendous dexterity in playing not only the sitar, but other Indian instruments like the tabla and sarangi. The video shows him talking with and playing alongside musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin and George Harrison. Viewers are given a look at Shankar with teaching his students and at his home with his wife. This is an up close and personal look at an exceptional musician in the interesting world of raga and the philosophy that underlies it.
