Manufactured in India, these Richeson 6228 series watercolor brushes with short round handles are no longer made from Siberian Kolinsky sable. Nonetheless, they are still a genuine fur product that is designed to perform well either for painting or hobby work.
All natural sable brushes hold and disperse paint well because the unique shape of the individual fur strands allows them to dry fully between uses and to retain their shape when saturated with color.
The number 0 is a fine brush designed for detail work. With proper care, this brush will last for years. The brush should be cleaned thoroughly after each use, allowed to dry completely, and hung head down to preserve its shape. Because the hairs are natural, they need to be conditioned from time to time to protect them from becoming brittle or being burnt by solvents.
For the fine detail work on my bird carvings, I need a brush that will load well and point up consistently. The Richeson Sable Round NO 0 brush is one of the few I have found that gives the desired results.
