The harp is one of the most enduring instruments throughout the centuries. This instrument has been around since the 8th century when it was developed in Ireland. Since that time, the harp has become popular all over the world and has taken on many forms. Today, the standard for the harp is 46 strings and a 75-pound total weight. Irish monks worked with the harp and introduced it into other parts of Europe. The original instrument was a hand-held device, but it became larger over the years as its popularity grew. This 28-minute video examines the history of this instrument as well as works that have been composed for it.
