Dada and Surrealism Video (DVD)

From the origins of the Dada movement in early 20th-century Europe to the Surrealist movement that followed soon afterwards, this video explores the development of these avant-garde artistic styles. The 60-minute art history program introduces viewers to the work of artists such as Hanna Hoch, Salvador Dali, Kurt Schwitter and Joan Miro as well as presenting some of the most important art pieces of the era. By rejecting rational thought and logic, the artists of this time created a new aesthetic that dipped into the depths of unconscious thought and unspoken mysteries while opening up new ways of expression that departed significantly from prior movements that were far more grounded in reality.
