Celebrating American Music Video(VHS/DVD). In this ABC News program, Nick Spitzer, a professional folklorist and host of NPR’s American Routes, takes a trip through the nation’s history and culture via America’s "vernacular music." His first stop is El Sid-O’s Dance Hall in Lafayette, Louisiana, to hear Nathan Williams and the Zydeco Cha Chas, a family band with a saga behind it and happy fans in front. Next, he travels to Wayne Henderson’s guitar workshop in Rugby, Virginia, where Doc Watson, a flat-pick style virtuoso, tries out instruments made for Appalachian music. And in L.A., Ray Charles teaches a group of high school musicians the art of "Busted," a blend of country and western and the blues. (22 minutes)
