Cadmium is a metal that was discovered in 1817 but was not produced as a pigment for several decades because of the scarcity of the metal. The name comes from both the Latin cadmia, which refers to zinc; as well as from the Greek kadmeia, after the Persian Prince Cadmus. Cadmium Yellow is a staple of any artists palette since bright yellow is almost impossible to mix. Cadmium Yellow itself is used regularly for the mixing of warm, vibrant greens. It can also be mixed with a Pthalo Blue for a cooler green hue. Cadmium Yellow Deep is a particularly brilliant yellow and has excellent permanence and tinting power.
