The legal drug industry is booming and the users include people from all demographics and backgrounds, whether it is hard core addicts or middle class recreational users. Drug designers insist that the products they create are tested for safety and create a specific high that the drug user is seeking. However, the toxic effects of many of these drugs is completely unknown, as none of them are tested by legitimate authorities. In some cases, drug related deaths are the result of the use of these substances, or the use of them in combination with illegal drugs or prescription medications.
In this documentary, a UK border staff agency is followed as they attempt to seize undeclared substances that are being imported into the country by the ton. Toxicologists struggle to keep up with the huge quantities of mass produced drugs. They are produced in countries like India and China where factories can exist in areas that are unknown to authorities or where there is lax regulation.
