Anyone wishing to understand Cuba, its culture, its arts and its background must get a clear picture of the trade embargo the United States has imposed on the country for more than five decades. Rooted in worsening relations between the Eisenhower administration and the Castro regime during the late 1950s, the embargo eventually restricted all imports and exports to and from Cuba (except for food and medicine). In this documentary, photographer and filmmaker Joe Guerriero seeks to understand the origins and nature of the embargo, why it has lasted so long and what its effects have been on the people of Cuba. Containing interviews with people on both sides of the water, this film offers an especially timely learning experience for the viewer, given the recent announcement on the easement of trade restrictions between the two countries.
