Product Description:
In 1981, Peter Sutcliffe was convicted of killing 13 women. In 1994, mass murderer Robert Black was convicted of killing three girls. And in 1996, serial killer Peter Moore was convicted of murdering four men. How could these murderers have been stopped? In this gripping episode of Crime and Motion: Mapping Murder, we examine these three serial murder cases and how they're all eerily similar to one another. Once detectives working on these murders started using geographical profiling, they were eventually able to bring all of these perpetrators to justice. To do this, they looked at patterns in these serial killers' paths, the locations of each crime and how the murderer was connected to each area. Then, geographical profiling software helped identify the killer's likely home base. In the end, geographical profiling was the key to putting all three of these men behind bars -- and, if it had been available and performed sooner, it could probably have stopped many of the later killing sprees from happening. In this commanding DVD, viewers will delve into murder cases from years ago, learn how they can help solve a murder by reporting suspicious activity and see how geographical profiling can help bring justice for all.

Geographic profiling is the process of studying the location of serial murders, as well as the preferred location for particular types of crime in order to determine where an offender may be located. A wide range of different scientific methods are used in geographic profiling, and the method is used to help convict suspects or find suspects for some of the most horrific and serious crimes. Geographic profiling research and methodology has significantly advanced in recent years, however decades ago the method was not as developed and only in its infancy.
