Mongolia: The Big Dig (Enhanced DVD)

The documentary covers the push for mining in remote areas of Mongolia. Headed by large Australian corporations, the mining boom that's sweeping the country is controversial. While mining is nothing new to Mongolia, the scale of upcoming projects is like nothing that the country has seen. The concerns are that big mining can result in a transformation and exploitation of Mongolia. While the government has encourages oversees investments, it's unclear how much Mongolia will actually benefit from this mining boom.

The pressure on natural resources can have a direct impact on the nomadic herders of Mongolia. The question is if the country, already in short supply of fresh water, can sustain adequate resources for its people with the demands of mining in place. The filmmakers address the economic and environmental concerns of big mining in Mongolia.
