The “White Australia” Policy: Constraining the Servile Races—Immigration Nation (Enhanced DVD)
Product Description:
The White Australia Policy: Constraining the Servile Races takes the viewer on a journey through the creation of the Commonwealth of Australia and examines the racist policies that went onto that process. The film focuses on a Chinese family, separated by the laws prohibiting the entrance of "people of color" into the newly formed Australian nation. Some of the paranoia displayed by the early Australian politicians can be placed at the feet of Charles Pearson and his book, The Servile Races. The Australian Prime Minister was deeply influenced by Pearson's book, along with the works of adventure author Rider Haggard, and even President Wilson who was instrumental in denying the Japanese proposal of Racial Equality to the League of Nations.
