Lotto Scams: Scammed (Enhanced DVD)
Customer Reviews
Lotto scams have been used for decades by criminals. They are a type of advance fee scam that often starts with an unexpected mailing, notification, email or phone call and it may include a large check with the notification that the person has won a large sum of money. The recipient is told to keep the notification a secret and to contact a claims agent in order to receive the reward. Once the agent is contacted, the victim is often told they must pay a fee in order to receive their winnings, however they never receive any actual lottery payment.
In this episode of Scammed, a family run international lotto scam is detailed, which lasted over 20 years and across two generations. A son took over his father’s long established scam. Forged international lotto mailings were sent out and convinced the victims to pay into the organization and that it was legitimate. The family also convinces their victims that their scam has a pension fund. The U.S. Secret Service tracks down this family owned lotto scam and brings them to justice. Some of the content in this program may be objectionable, so viewer discretion is advised.
