David vs. Monsanto: Insights into Genetic Manipulation (Enhanced DVD)

If the mythical legend of David and Goliath could be played out in modern court, it was Percy Schmeiser who took a stand that would alter the image of Monsanto’s genetically enhanced seed products. When the case initiated in 1998 was remanded after decade dispute to the Federal Court of Canada, it was Schmeiser who was awarded a settlement out of court. How did this lone farmer beat a major multinational company in disagreement over 'patent infringement'?

Monsanto’s pursuance of $400,000 in damages, and the counter-suit by the farmer that would result in sustained allegations of: libel, trespassing, improperly seed sampling of his production, environmental tampering, and contamination of crops with unwanted genetically modified plants.

The allegation that contamination had taken place; rather than proprietary crosspollination. Monsanto’s assertion that the company owned control over the entire crop, was ultimately beat by Schmeiser, in spite of the complaint at had illegally used the patented seeds. According to Schmeiser Monsanto had introduced genetically altered seeds to local crops not incompliance with regulatory controls and containment. The program provides important insight into the genetically modified production of food in the agri-business.
