The Supreme Buddha came from Bhutan, and then he walked to India, first suffering as an aesthetic, then to sit under a massive Boddhi tree in order to find enlightenment. Few westerners know of this marvelous country of Bhutan. Fewer still know that the intent of those in government and ruling power in Bhutan is to increase the "Gross National Happiness.” The people live simply. Many would say they are poor, but what they lack in material possessions they make up in a tremendous wealth in spirit.

Bhutan is a kingdom with a benevolent leader. This documentary film explores the concept of happiness as promoted by the leadership of Bhutan, in opposition to the negative western influences, which are invading the country. Once isolated and pure, the Bhutanese are simple good hearted people interested in living in harmony with nature and dedicated to family according to ancient traditions, which has sustained them for centuries. The modern world now encroaches on this isolated paradise and the influence is less than positive. In Bhutan, life is about living and loving. The smiles of the people are radiant, the generosity apparent, and the warmth of how they treat each other is amazing.

The questions arise, as explored in this documentary film, of what is good for people, how the pursuit of happiness is achievable, and how does one protect themselves from negative cultural changes and influences that have the potential to destroy the tranquility. Bhutan is a paradise under challenge, yet there is much they can teach the world about how to live in harmony.
