It is obvious that in this world there are haves, who have a lot, and have nots, who, upfront, seem to be losing even the little that they possess. There are a number of attempted solutions to this problem of inequality; yet, few show any demonstrable success. This DVD presents microfinancing, the allocation of seed capital to small business startups cut off by mainstream lenders, as one option that is making some positive changes.
Professor Muhammad Yunus, of Chittagong University, is a focal point of this documentary. He started the Grameen Bank as an alternative financial institution for those who have traditionally found it hard to get business capital. The overall goal, as shown here, is to microfinance projects that help the truly impoverished realize their entrepreneurial dreams. Yunus, the film mentions, won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to eradicate poverty.
Similarly, the Grameen Trust provides much needed funding for people and organizations that try to address the infrastructure needs of underserved communities. Clean water and low-cost nutritional foods are some examples of themes addressed by recipients of Grameen Trust grants.
