Comrade Duch: The Bookkeeper of Death (two-part - Enhanced DVD)
Product Description:
Genocide on trial is the focus of this taught, gripping, two-part 2011 documentary, which details the progress of the Cambodian Genocide Tribunal that seeks to hold accountable those officials of Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge regime who were responsible for the genocidal deaths of approximately one million Cambodians before the brutal dictatorship was ousted by Vietnamese army forces in 1979. This video tracks the war crime trails of one of the most notorious killers of that time period, Kang Kek Lew, also known as Comrade Duch. As the leader of the regime’s internal security forces with overall control of Tuol Sleng prison, Duch was convicted of ordering the torture and execution of more than 14,000 prisoners at Tuol Sleng.
Viewer discretion is advised before watching this director’s cut of the televised broadcast, and compellingly depicts the anguish of the survivors of this brutal period, and the healing of a nation as Cambodians watch their tormentor convicted for Crimes Against Humanity.
