An essential form of communication for millions of deaf and hearing-impaired people, American Sign Language uses virtually the entire body to talk to others. Also known as ASL, this basic level, two part course introduces viewers to simple signs designed to prepare them to have signed conversations.
Part One introduces us to the unique grammar structure of ASL, how different signs can be used together to form simple sentences. It's different from spoken English, but intuitive once students get the hang of it. Using subtitles and clever assessment sections, this part teaches signs for the alphabet, names, greetings, people, animals, and household rooms.
Part Two expands on common everyday words and concepts. Here, we learn the signs for various forms of money, weather, telling time from minutes to days to months and longer, directions, food, and more. There are plenty of activities to help students put it all together into easy conversations. We also learn how to tell more complex stories as the lesson progresses.
