Mauritania: Health Care for Pregnant Women (Enhanced DVD)
Product Description:
Every year, over 800 women in Mauritania in South Africa will die during childbirth. Alarmingly, there are over 14,500 deaths annually among children under the age of five in this country. Mauritania has national objectives in place that were established with help from the United Nations to try to lower the death rate by 75 percent for maternal deaths and 66 percent in child mortality by this year. The country is struggling to meet these goals. Learn of the conditions in Kiffa, where the film visits an understaffed and badly equipped gynecological health center. The film then shifts to Sebkha, where the health center has a new ultrasound machine, hindered by the sporadic electricity in the area. Then watch how an outreach team travels to outlying areas of the town, striving to gain progress in the maternity field. Watch how their team is gaining ground in the obstetrical healthcare program.
